Global Dignity Day 2026 · National Inauguration
Dignity For All
100 Minutes. Many Voices. One Belief. Mumbai will witness the National Inauguration of Global Dignity Day, a public expression of dignity at work.
20 days to go
Background
How does work make people feel?
Held on the third Wednesday of October, Global Dignity Day is a global movement built around a simple belief. On 21 October 2026, people everywhere are invited to recognise the dignity and humanity we share.
For Work With Dignity® Foundation, this global movement connects deeply with our mission to make dignity the way India works.
Dignity is not simply a policy or a principle. It is reflected in how we speak, listen, include, recognise and treat one another.
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity.
hours a week we spend at work
But beyond roles, targets and performance, do people feel Heard? Valued?
The Campaign
Many moments of reflection, recognition, participation and action.
Organisations, NGOs, government and governing bodies, communities, leaders and individuals, with Mumbai as the National Inauguration and a public expression of the movement.
BMC is perhaps one of the most powerful examples of dignity in action. Mumbai functions because thousands of people perform essential work every day, often quietly and without public recognition. We notice their absence immediately; Global Dignity Day gives us an opportunity to notice and honour them when they are present.
With BMC as a Partner for the National Inauguration, we propose:
Recognise the frontline
Publicly recognise 10–12 exemplary BMC frontline colleagues, particularly drivers, sanitation workers, street cleaners and other essential staff.
Their own stories
Invite some of them to tell their own stories, giving the frontline a voice, not merely an award.
PPE & support kits
Present PPE kits and useful work and life-support utilities to selected frontline staff as a tangible Act of Dignity.
“I Choose Dignity”
Take a collective pledge with BMC leadership and employees.
From Mumbai to India
Every role may be different, but every person has equal human worth.
